About Us — Lamp for Feet

About Us

Rooted in the Word, lit by the Lamp — a Bible study resource built for those who want to go deeper.

A Lamp for the Journey

Lamp for Feet exists for one reason: to help believers engage deeply with God’s Word. Not skimming, not summarizing — but sitting in the text, wrestling with it, and letting it shape how we think, pray, and live.

“Your word is a lamp to my feet and a light to my path.”

Psalm 119:105

That verse is our namesake and our mission. Scripture is not a spotlight that reveals the whole landscape at once — it is a lamp, illuminating the very next step. This site is built for people willing to walk that way: step by step, word by word, with patience and trust.

Feet on the Ground, Light in Hand

In ancient Israel, a ner was a small clay oil lamp — not a floodlight, not a lighthouse. It cast just enough glow for the next few steps on a dark path. That image shapes everything we do here.

We are not trying to be an exhaustive commentary or an academic journal. We are a lamp: practical, accessible, and close to the ground where your feet actually walk. Every study, every word study, every reflection is written to help you take the next faithful step.

How We Study

Lamp for Feet is organized around a few core rhythms of study, each designed to draw you closer to the text and closer to God:

The Hagah Post

Our core format — named after the Hebrew word hagah (הָגָה), meaning to mutter, meditate, and turn over in the mind. Each post walks through The Passage, The Root, The Image, The Mutter, and The Wrestle.

Books of the Bible

In-depth study guides for individual books of Scripture — structure, themes, key terms, life applications, discussion questions, and how each book fits into the larger story of redemption.

Other Resources

Curated tools for deeper study — from Hebrew and Greek lexicons to trusted commentaries, Bible atlases, and original-language interlinears. Tools we actually use and trust.

Rooted in the Original Languages

We believe the richest understanding of Scripture comes from engaging with the original Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek. That does not mean you need a seminary degree to read this site — far from it. It means we do the digging so you can see what the text is actually saying: the wordplay, the echoes, the layers of meaning that English translations can only approximate.

When you see a Hebrew or Greek term highlighted on this site, it is not there to impress — it is there because the original word opens a door into deeper meaning. We want you to walk through that door.

“Be diligent to present yourself approved to God, a worker who does not need to be ashamed, rightly dividing the word of truth.”

2 Timothy 2:15 (NKJV)

A Work in Progress

Lamp for Feet is a labor of love — one believer’s attempt to build something useful for the body of Christ. This site is not backed by a large organization or staff. It is a personal offering, built in the margins of ordinary life, fueled by a conviction that the Word of God is living and active and worth every hour spent in it.

New studies, new Hagah posts, and new resources are added regularly. If this site has been helpful to you, or if you have suggestions for how it can grow, we would love to hear from you.
